⚡ Why Everyone Is Asking About Electric Dirt Bikes (Yozma IN-10, Surron, Talaria) — And Why Richmond eBike Doesn’t Carry Them

Recently, we’ve had a lot of teenagers and parents asking about electric dirt bikes like the Yozma IN-10 Electric Dirt Bike, Surron Light Bee X, Talaria Sting, and similar models.

These bikes are going viral on TikTok and YouTube, and many kids think they are just “fast e-bikes.”

But in British Columbia, these machines are not considered legal e-bikes, and that’s one of the main reasons Richmond eBike does not sell them.

Let’s explain why.

1️⃣ They Are Not Legal E-Bikes in British Columbia

In BC, a legal electric bike must meet very specific rules:

  • Maximum 500W motor

  • Maximum 32 km/h assisted speed

  • Must have working pedals

  • Rider must be 16 years or older

  • Must wear a helmet

If a bike exceeds those limits, it is no longer considered an e-bike and becomes a motor vehicle or off-road vehicle.

Most electric dirt bikes like Yozma, Surron, and Talaria:

  • Have 2,000W – 6,000W motors

  • Reach 60–80 km/h

  • Often do not have pedals

So legally, they do not qualify as e-bikes in Canada.

2️⃣ They Cannot Be Used on Roads or Bike Paths

Electric dirt bikes are considered off-road vehicles, similar to gas dirt bikes.

That means they cannot be used on:

  • City streets

  • Bike lanes

  • Sidewalks

  • Public parks

  • Trails open to bicycles

Police in BC have recently warned that electric dirt bikes are for off-road use only and are not permitted on roads or public spaces.

Riders using them on streets can receive fines for:

  • No insurance

  • No license

  • Illegal vehicle operation

3️⃣ Age Rules Also Matter

BC also has minimum age rules for electric bikes:

  • 14–15 years old: only allowed to ride light e-bikes (≤250W pedal assist)

  • 16+ years old: allowed to ride standard e-bikes (≤500W)

Many electric dirt bikes are marketed to kids under 16, but legally they cannot be used on public roads or bike lanes.

4️⃣ Service and Parts Support

Another reason Richmond eBike does not carry these models is their lack of serviceability.

Many electric dirt bikes:

  • Use proprietary controllers and batteries

  • Have limited parts availability in Canada

  • Are difficult for local shops to repair

At Richmond eBike, we only sell bikes we can fully support with diagnostics, service, and replacement parts.

5️⃣ Our Focus: Safe, Legal, Supported Electric Bikes

Our goal has always been simple:
